A Weekend in St. Louis

Last night I got back from a three day trip to St. Louis, Missouri. It had been the first time I'd gone to St. Louis but I hope to go back soon to explore more soon. Being in a place with so much story in every part of it isn't something I've gotten to experience much of.

I've always loved learning about history, especially the everyday people who's cultures we'd learn about, so traveling to places like Cahokia and Union Station after learning about them gave the experiences in the places another layer for me. Having an answer to questions like "Why would they bother creating these mounds?" allowed all of us to focus on what the spaces were actually doing and break down the spaces in sketches and analyze them on a much deeper level.

A lot of the places we went to held a lot of significance for me. Union Station and all of the museums especially. There's one museum in my hometown which was originally a train station, my mom volunteered there while I grew up so I'd end up helping there when I could. I'm from a very small town and the Depot matches, it could fit in just about any main room in Union Station, but there were still a few parallels between types of rooms and extra decoration compared to other buildings constructed at the same time. Seeing how buildings that are actually made to be museums gave me a better idea of what exactly the problems are in the cramped spaces in my museums as well as how I could help them improve it which I appreciated. A train station isn't the ideal place for a museum with lots of artifacts that need to be protected, especially without any remodeling but we haven't tried everything yet.
