Ending a Long Week

We finished our precedents studies this week and there's nothing quite like the excitement of getting to show people what you've worked so hard on. It's the tipping point for learning I think. You put everything you can into one assignment and really go over everything you've learned so far and then you know whatever comes next you're going to learn a lot from. Even if no one likes what you've done and they only have negative things to say you know the next project will be so much better. It's easier to be proud when they like what you've done of course, but there's always so much you know you can do better or at the very least you can do faster.
I'm not sure how many hours my partner and I spent working on my Truss Wall House project but I know it felt good, I'm excited to be getting closer to a time in my life where I can just focus on my projects instead of worrying about assignments and tests for other classes. I value what I do in those classes too and I'm glad I'm getting to learn such a variety of things while in college they're hard to focus on sometimes when there's a model I rather be building.
This week I learned:
- sometimes the small scale material that's most accurate looking for the big scale project still isn't the ideal material to build from
- when working with clay it's important to budget enough time to not only build the model but also a day or two extra to just spend smoothing and cleaning it
- keeping the colors throughout a page consistent makes it a lot easier to look at for everyone
- makes sure fonts match your project, generally san serif is preferred but there are times when serif may be appropriate, just make sure you decide as a conscious choice with some points to back it up
- if you can make some metaphors in the design of your layout you should, not everyone will notice but it's exciting when it happens and takes it to another level
- considering the Earth's rotation around the sun and how that changes throughout the year is really important for many reasons so making a diagram to show that makes a lot of sense
- no matter how stressful a project is, it feels worth it when you like it
